Florida Couple Includes Favorite Hospital in Estate Plan

When Brad and Robin Cooper started to plan their instructions for their estate, they knew they wanted to help charities that were near and dear to their hearts.

One of the organizations they selected as beneficiaries, was Flagler Health Care Foundation. That was because of Brad’s participation on the board of trustees and also because of the care that Flagler Hospital provided to them and their family members over the years. The story comes to us from the St. Augustine (FL) Record in the recent article, “Couple includes community hospital in estate planning.”

“Our estate gift continues beyond us,” Brad said. “We want to help support the institutions we care about, so they can keep making a difference.”

Robin and Brad, as well as their parents and other family members and friends, all have been cared for by the staff at Flagler Hospital over the years. They were extremely pleased with the care received, they said. Robin, who’s also a nurse, volunteers locally with the Wildflower Clinic in St. Augustine.

“Flagler Hospital is wonderful and extremely special to both of us,” she said. Robin went on to say that she and her husband wanted to help the hospital continue to grow and improve, and perhaps bring even more specialties on board, so they can help even more people.

The Flagler Health Care Foundation is the charitable 501(c)3 organization that supports the mission of Flagler Hospital.

The Coopers made a multi-million-dollar commitment to Flagler Health Care Foundation’s planned giving program to create a legacy that will provide quality health care for future generations, according to Joe Gordy, the CEO of Flagler Hospital. He also said that the organization was grateful for the level of trust the Coopers have for the hospital and for “their selfless gift to their community.”

As a sole community hospital, Flagler provides more than $35 million in charity care to patients annually, Jason Barrett, Flagler Hospital’s President, said. He went on to remark, “Meeting our community mission while delivering the highest quality, most technologically advanced care in a transforming health care economy can be a challenge. Gifts like these support our ability to deliver on our promise of excellence, while continuing to build healthier communities together.”

Brad commented that he and his wife hope their contribution will encourage others to include Flagler Health Care Foundation in their estate plans. “We believe in community involvement and charitable giving, and we believe in the hospital’s mission,” Brad said.
